Totally Woman

When I wrote the article titled "A Virtuous Woman; Whom would Find One?" I offered to analyze later chapter 31 of Proverbs which contains the praise to a virtuous woman that I briefly outlined that day. Now when lots of girls are ending high school and getting ready to go to college seemed appropriate to keep my promise to say; you guys are about to become real women!
When talking about virtue we always associate the term with purity and long hours of prayer. It seems like the term has little or nothing to do with the cosmopolitan woman of now days that gets a career and competes with men to achieve high levels at work; that one who can face life alone and raise her children without the help of their father. The reality is very different and Bible is clear on this.
Proverbs 31:10-31
10. Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies.
There was a time when women could be sold or disclosed as part of a business alliance to the man who would marry them. She would be checked as an animal for sale and if she was beautiful and healthy enough a business in which her feelings, desires and dreams did not count would be trade. Her worth was to be the guarantee of a partnership between families. As such alliances were trade early in life women were raised to be what their husbands expected them to be.
Today's woman in almost every country around this world is educated to be what she expects of herself. With very few exceptions, she has the right to choose her partner and does it according to her feelings. Of course, even today beauty makes a difference but also being knowledgeable and even the nature of her soul counts. I do not mean by this long hours of prayer, but the willingness of spirit and gentleness of character. Surprisingly for those who are not used to reading the scriptures the worth of women today is no different than that of yesteryear.
11. The heart of her husband doth safely trust to her; so that he shall have no need of spoil.
12. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life.
Back in those days loyalty, fidelity, living in dignity were already required issue and its demand went beyond what is expected of us today. At that time people traveled by foot or by beasts so that when a man left on a trip it would take him years to return. His wife then administered home and the business of her husband who expected, when returning, to find everything in order and as much or more prosperous than when he left. The education of children in those days was similar to that of divorced women and single mothers today. The presence of the father was only an image of authority and sometimes only a vague remembrance. She should also abstain from sex along the years he spent out even if she did not know if he was still alive. As today's his faithfulness did not count because in this regard who has a honor to keep are women. In what to men refers the more experienced the  better he is and this is an experience women appreciate them to held. Those who have a religion in which man remains as chaste as women know better than anyone what I mean.
13. She seeketh wool, and flax, and worketh willingly with her hands.
14. She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
15. She riseth also while it is yet night, and giveth meat to her household, and a portion to her maidens.
16. She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands  she planteth a vineyard.
17. She girdeth her loins with strength, and strengtheneth her arms.
18. She perceiveth that her merchandise is good: her candle goeth not out by night.
19. She layeth her hands to the spindle and her hands hold the distaff.
Virtue implied in those days, as today, to be trained in every line of work. This woman was a great artisan and a wise farmer who also trade and got good profit from what she produced. She knew how to find good deals like the woman of today that goes store to store in search of the best quality and the best prices. The greatest part is that she was always available to meet her business as we do today that never turn the phone off just in case an emergency occurs.
20. She stretcheth out her hand to the poor; yea, she reacheth forth her hands to the needy.
We have spoken many times about the great spiritual growth which reaches the soul of who practice charity. Since she is also generous must be a noble soul.
21. She is not afraid of the snow for her household, for all her household are clothed with scarlet.
She is a wary woman who knows how to anticipate to the circumstances.
22. She maketh herself coverings of tapestry; her clothing is silk and purple.
23. Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land.
Silk and purple dressed the nobles, gods, kings. This statement means that she is excellently reputed. Her worth is such that everyone trusts on her husband for being married to her. A jerk does not fit in the bed of a virtuous woman so that he is given the respectability of a sage because only a great man enjoys the company of a woman like her.
24. She maketh fine linen and sellth it; and delivereth girdles unto the merchant.
25. Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
Honesty is her style; she knows that the prosperity of her family depends on the good relationship established in her business.
26. She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
She is understanding and forgives your mistakes, when she admonishes you she does it to instruct not to humiliate.
27. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
She takes care of her body with the enthusiasm of today’s women not only because she wants to look nice but because gluttony as all vices involves the waste of money. She knows that what she overeats today could alleviate her hunger tomorrow.
28. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
29. Many daughters have done virtuously: but thou excellest them all.
30. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain; but a woman that feareth the Lord she shall be praised.
31. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
As result of her behavior she is loved, respected and admired of those who are part of her environment. The nobility of her soul goes beyond her beauty and as response she harvests goodness in the hands of all those she serves.
She serves God faithfully and that is her best attribute.
This compliment to women is also a guide to action. Who was not raised to be it can achieve virtuosity by herself acquiring the knowledge and applying it to her own life. One thing you can be sure of is that you will get so much praise as the lady of the Bible. Virtue never go out of style.

Toda Una Mujer

16. Considera la heredad y la compra; y planta viña del fruto de sus manos;

Honor's Essence.

Man is an inhospitable creature, has always been. He wants to be powerful, to be the one who leads but he is perfectionist and changes from time to time in search of what he calls perfection. The peak of power is what today man searches is as perfection.
As the perfectionist creatures we are we want to feel we have an advantage upon the others in some way. We love competition and want to be winners. We care so much about success that many of us put aside the best of life to go for it and when we find it cease to live to get to keep it.
Just as in the nature’s chain of feeding the larger feeds himself eating the little, we also do but to us eating is taking advantage of another and big means competent. We are not better now than in the days when we enslaved each other, just have sophisticated our concept of territory and the way we demarcate it.
We no longer seal away to steal from other continents, we have stopped colonizing faraway lands. Now we set our businesses in them and make them work for far less than we would pay in our own land for the work they perform. Slavery has many nuances.
Rich man is a slave of luxury and comfort, power and prestige. Poor is a slave of his boss and his debts. Addict is a slave to his vices and perverted to his passions. Today we are slaves to beauty even in the lowest strata of society. Feeding the ego is completely inherent in the daily life of modern man.
Ego has always walked side by side with presumption. She is the weapon we use to demarcate our territory and the lower is the stratum he comes from the more presumptuous man is. To let others know we are able to compete is ritual to the one who lacks of resources and that ritual is repeated even in the upper strata where although there is no lack of resources there are still gaps in what money cannot pay.
Rich one, the powerful one disqualifies the poor one for his economic deprivation, thus takes him out of contest so that others do not notice he exceeds him in other features but as the forces of nature are concatenated into an endless cycle rich cannot be without the poor neither educated without the uneducated.
A janitor is more essential in a company than a general manager. He maintains the company’s image with more enthusiasm and effort than who sits in his office to coordinate the work of others. What does it worth the architect all the knowledge embodied on the paper if do not have workers to turn his work into something tangible, something real?
No man is more valuable and wiser than the one who knows how to lead without humiliating; who rules the world without proclaiming his supremacy. Superior is one who gives everyone honor and respect they deserve regardless of the grade level and socioeconomic status to which they belong. Honor walks barefoot and ragged on the streets with the same value as in costume into a limo.
Honor is neither what we learn in school nor what we buy in a store. Honor is moral values we acquire in our day after day at home mixed with the quality of our own soul and stick with the cramps life give us.
Whether you are rich or poor will reap what you sow Walk always toward life with open arms and your soul on the edge of your lips and world will receive you in a good way, will welcome you into it and make your life sweet.

Teach Me To Fly On My Own

We born with our senses over flown with curiosity, we want to feel everything but mum and dad fill our lives with rules that prevent us from running out to the streets eager of new experiences. Nothing more needed and unbearable than rules exists. They help us become social beings; adults able to interact with the world without disrupting the lives of others or ruin ours. What terrible rules are! They cause all the miseries suffered along childhood and adolescence.
The great thing about rules is that if we assimilate them as part of our lives they become so intrinsic in us that turn out to be our way of living and obey them even when our parents are not there to watch our behavior. That is the goal we pursue as parents.
With God's rules occurs something like. We are taught that happiness is the kind of life we will have in heaven and on behalf of eternity we must put aside everything which could prevent us from the possibility of returning to the presence of God. Sometimes we are told that happiness can wait. We could then wonder what happiness is. Is happy the criminal who lives hiding in fear of being caught at any time or is happy the lustful who fears being trapped in his vice? Obviously not everyone who does wrong is afraid and that fear prevents him from enjoying what he does.
But not all vetoes in childhood have to do with crime and sin. Some are just to protect us from the danger engendered in intimidating with people to those who naively believe that everyone in this world is good. These are the most difficult to understand and the ones we disobey more. What’s forbidden is always attractive, that’s why it is said that grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. It looks tender and fragrant every time our parents don’t allow us to go out.

We grow, give birth to our own children and initiate to understand how right our parents were. Like a vicious cycle we repeat everything we hated in our parents. If our own reflect on the mirror could speak when we have just punished our children would surely scream - Get out of that body mum! - Some of us become so audacious on imposing rules that forget all we did without permission and want our kids to think we were the perfect guy, sometimes we even assure that never happened in our times what happens now. Sodom and Gomorrah did not exist, sin has just been invented.
Sad occurrence is that of veiling truth! We tend a drape to cover our own actions and that mantle becomes the wall which denies us the trust and respect of our children. Since we are playing to be the perfect human we fail to find out what our children are involve in before a failure occurs and worse happens when the one we put on the pedestal is our son. Let me illustrate this with a true story:
I once went to visit one of my sisters and found her feeling ashamed. Her child was already attending to kinder garden all day long and every day came back complaining for some kid who stole his toy or another who hurt him so she taught her kid to biting, hair pulling and pinching his classmates. That day his teacher was waiting for her when she went to pick her child and not to congratulate her, her son was the scourge of the kinder garden.
I had said before that free will is not for children but for adults who already know the rules and it's truth, I've also said the 8th year of age is called the age of responsibility because from there we can fully understand and accept the blame for our actions not because mum and dad can from there be excused from their parenthood’s obligations but today I want to clarify that this is the proper age to start learning to exercise free will. We could call it in this case controlled freedom.
It's time for Mum and Dad to help us decide what to do when we fail. Teach us how self punishment works instead of punishing their own. This improves our parent-child’s relationship. It helps us grow to be free adults; to be able to make our own decisions and choose what is right. The great thing about this kind of freedom is that it doesn’t take away our individuality because we grow up knowing how to be ourselves and do it right.
As Fernando Savater said; "What really matters is not whether there is life after death, but that there is life before. And make that life be a good one, not mere survival or constant fear of dying"

Enseñame A Volar Por Mi Mismo

Crecemos, engendramos nuestros propios hijos y empezamos a comprender cuánta razón tenían nuestros padres.
